Anchor House – 26 Station Road West

A Short History
From the Early 20th Century until mid 1990’s No. 26 was run by The Atkinson Family as a poultry and game shop and latterly as a fish shop. The anchor outside is a reminder of those days, and was apparently first placed on the forecourt in the 1950’s or 60’s. In the early days it was not fixed down and occasionally went for a short walk late on a Friday or Saturday, aided by late light revellers from the Hoskins Arms Hotel which was opposite. It is now firmly fixed down.
